Identifying tradeoffs between richness and evenness in artistic systems

Access to large databases of behavioral and artistic records, and recent advances in AI assistants have created an efflorescence in the scientific study of cultural diversity. Here I focus on two study systems - the Game of Go and the South Indian art of Kolam - with the tools of behavioral ecology to understand how consistent patterns of behavioral diversity are with processes of strategic social learning, rates of innovation, artistic virtuosity, and the influence of new modes of social information.
