Computing the Past Together (Conference in Pilsen, 6-8 October)
Conference Computing the Past was jointly organized by Computing Culture & Society Laboratory (CCS-Lab) and CEDRR to create an interdisciplinary meeting point for several historically oriented fields in humanities.
Disciplines such as digital literary studies, computational archaeology and historiography, have so far mostly existed in separate clusters, and the contact and collaboration between them were minimal despite their common approaches to historical data. The goal of the conference was to bridge these gaps by putting representatives of these disciplines into one room to spark the methodological and theoretical overlaps and to pursue fruitful interdisciplinary integration in the study of the past.
The success of the conference was palpable at the lively final discussion with the panel of keynote speakers who represented the different disciplines, i.e., Tom Brughmans (computation and network approaches to archaeology), Monica Berti (computational analysis of Greek and Latin), and István Czachesz (Scholar o Biblical studies and a pioneer in computational, cognitive and evolutionary approaches to early Christianity).
