  • Lecture room J22 (Jaselská 18, building J)

On Friday, April 28, 2023, at 11:30 a.m., a lecture on "Studying Chinese Buddhism in Europe" will be given by a foreign guest from the University of Vienna, Joseph Chadwin, in room J22. The lecture will be held in English, all visitors are welcome.

Annotation:

"Chinese Buddhism in Europe is very difficult to study. The main reason for this is that the data we have on the subject is often misleading: because Chinese immigrants are commonly identified as being predominantly (if not wholly) irreligious, the vast majority of Buddhist practice among the Chinese immigrant community is unnoticed. This talk will explore the hidden face of Chinese Buddhism in Europe. We will discuss how Buddhism is engaged with and practiced by the Chinese community and discuss how the way in which Buddhism is often studied in Europe is problematic."
