Practical information

Travelling to Brno

Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Republic. You can reach it by plane (from some European cities), car, train or bus. The nearest international airports are Prague (Czech Republic), Vienna (Austria) and Bratislava (Slovak Republic).

Getting to Brno from these international airports is very simple. We will provide you with some recommendations, but you will find your way to Brno without problem even if you do not follow them precisely.

How to get to Brno from the Prague airport:

  • There are several flights a day between Prague and Brno for those who travel with Czech Airlines or a company which is a member of the SkyTeam. As flights between Prague and Brno are often full, it is a good idea to book one in advance. From Brno airport, you can get to the city center by charter bus which takes you to the Grand hotel (No. 11 on the map).
  • There are also good bus connections between Prague airport and Brno, which depart every hour. We recommend the Czech Airlines direct bus line or a bus of Student Agency. To book a place in a bus of Czech Airlines, go to the information desk at the Prague airport. With Student Agency, you may have to change at Praha-Florenc station, but you continue with the same company.
  • Another possibility is to get to the center of Prague (by taxi, airport charter buses, public transport) and take a bus from Praha-Florenc bus station (buses to Brno leave almost every half an hour) or a train (from the main railway station) to Brno. The train takes you to the main Brno railway station (No. 9 on the map). The bus takes you either to the Grand hotel (No. 11) or to the main bus station (No. 10). The journey from Prague city center to Brno takes less than 3 hours.

How to get to Brno from the Vienna airport:

  • There are several direct bus lines from Vienna airport to the center of Brno, operated by Student Agency (8:05 a.m., 11:05 a.m., 6:05 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., high-quality yellow buses with service, coffee, toilet etc.) and by Tourbus (7:10 a.m., 4:45 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., blue buses). The Student Agency buses take you to the Grand hotel (No. 11 on the map), the Tourbus buses take you to the central bus station (No. 10).
  • You can also take a charter bus to Vienna Südbahnhof; in the morning and in the afternoon, there is a good train connection to the main Brno railway station (No. 9) almost every hour. The journey from Vienna airport to Brno takes about 3 hours.

How to get to Brno from the Bratislava airport:

  • Take a charter bus to the city center and travel to Brno by bus or train from the main bus/train station. There are direct lines to Brno circa every two hours. The journey takes about 3 hours.

Travelling in Brno

Once you are in Brno, there is nothing easier than to get to the places where the different parts of the conference program will take place. You will find the important places on our map. At the tram station situated between the main railway station (No. 9) and the Grand hotel (No. 11), take trams number 12 or 13 in the direction of Technologický park/Technické muzeum. To get to the registration desk (No. 4 on the map) and to the Faculty of Arts (No. 3 and 4), travel three stops, to the Grohova stop. To get to the Faculty of Social Sciences (No. 2) or to the Rector’s Office (No. 1), travel two stops, to the Česká stop. To get to the opening keynote lecture and to the opening party at the Faculty of Law (No. 5), travel two stops (Česká stop) and then change for the number 3 or 11 tram and travel three more stops to Rybkova stop, then continue on foot along the parking lot in the direction of the tram to get to the faculty. To get to the International Hotel (No. 7) or to the Continental Hotel (No. 6), travel two stops (Česká stop). To get to the Garni hotel (No. 8), take the number 1 tram in front of the main railway station (No. 9) in the direction of Bystrc and travel seven stops (Lipová stop).

Do not forget to buy a “60 minute ticket” (15 CZK) and mark it in the tram, by inserting it into a yellow machine.
